This time last year "Come On Over" had sold 4 million copies, now its up to 13 million. Thats 9 million copies sold in one year, amazing! {Thanx Carrie}
Shania took home 4 awards at the 1999 CCMA awards. She won for: Video of The Year, Female Artist, Vocal or Instrumental Collaboration, and Fans Choice Enertainer of The Year. Unfortunately due to her absence, boo's were heard along with the applause when the fans choice award was announced. {Thanx canoe.ca, and Carrie}
Apparently Shania will not be attending the 1999 CCMA awards. Reasons range from "promotional duties in Europe", to simply "taking time off from her tour". Not sure the exact reason, but those are the ones I read. As far as I know she is still scheduled to perform at the CMA's on Sept 22nd.
The Dixie Chicks newest album "Fly" debuted at #1 this week on the Country charts, knocking Shania from her comfortable #1 spot... at least temporarily : ) This ends Shania's amazing 46 week hold of the #1 Country album spot, a record she holds herself. Thanx Carrie.
Well according to the schedule that appeared on the MDA website, Shania was supposed to perform. Unfortunately the only glimpse of Shania seen on the telethon was a VH1 "Behind The Music" clip that aired twice. Perhaps it was a missunderstanding, as the next sentence in the schedule announced rockers that VH1 was presenting {archive footage}, possibly mixing up Shania's VH1 clip with an actual performance.
CMT U.S. aired their annual Labor Day Top 100 video countdown this weekend, and Shania was all over the charts! Fans placed 10 Shania videos in the top 100: #91: "Honey I'm Home", #41: "That Don't Impress Me Much", #22:
"Woman In Me", #21: "Who's Bed Have Your Boots Been Under", #16: "Love Gets Me Every Time", #13: "You Win My Love", #12: "I'm Outta Here", #11: "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!", #4: "Don't Be Stupid", #3: "Any Man Of Mine"
Shania's fabulous "Come On Over" album hase been certified as selling 13 million copies in the U.S.! Congradulations on the 13x Platinum, we await 14 : )
The newest Revlon ads featuring Shania have been showing up. Magazines like Elle and Glamour have print ads with the new campaign but show pics of Cindy Crawford. The TV ads featuring Shania in the famous "MIFLAW" black mini have been seen airing on the popular new quiz gameshow "You Want To Be a Millionare?" which is airing this week on prime time on ABC. If you see any print or TV ads featuring Shania please let me know where.
CBS' 2nd Shania special has been announced and will air November 25th at 8PM EST. The special will air the Thanksgiving Football game between the Miami Dolphins and the Dallas Cowboys
Shania has a few CD releases coming out. The first on August 24th according to Amazon.com is called "Maximum Shania" which may be the rumoured dance mix CD. On September 13th Windsong International will release a CD called "On The Way" which is a collection of pre-Mercury recordings from Shania.
Shania has recieved 6 CCMA nominations this year. Nominations are: Single of the Year (TDIMM), Female Artist of the Year, Video of the Year (TDIMM), SOCAN Song of the Year (TDIMM), Vocal Collaboration of the Year (FTMO with
Bryan White) and a nomination for the CMT Maple Leaf Foods Fan's Choice Award. The awards air September 13th.
Apparently the CMA's have yet to be introduced to Shania. Oh wait thats right, she doesn't live in Nashville and isnt country sounding enough... I keep forgetting why they keep snubbing her. Anyways she actually got 2 CMA nominations this year; one for Entertainer of the Year and the other for Female Vocalist of the Year. Nothing against the other artists, and I want Shania to win, but let me call it for you: it'll go something like Entertainer of the year: George Strait, and Female artist of the year: Faith Hill. I'd have to check, but Shania might not have ever won a CMA award....
Shania's previously planned 1999 christmas album reported in mags like Glamour and even the newest august 10th Country Weekly may not be finished in time and postponed until 2000. Sources recently have been rumouring it may not be done this year. I'll post anythign when I find out for sure.
Shania is in the September issue of FHM magazine, a tame european men's magazine. There is an 8 page spread with at least 7 brand new pics from the photo shoot, which not tasteless, have to be some of the sexiest she's ever had published. There is also an interview with her in the normal FHM style, asking questions most North American reporters usually dont. The magazine goes on sale very soon, and many good magazine retailers in North America carry FHM also. Be warned it may sell out quickly.
"Come On Over" has been certified as selling over 12 million copies in the U.S. alone! Worl Wide sales of the album are rumoured to be nearing 30 million! Shania's Live video also has been certified platinum!
Well since Shania kicked so much butt with her "Shania Twain's Winter Break" special on CBS, the executives want to have another, hopefully filmed early as fall and air in early 2000.
Shania will head the U.S. launch of Revlon's newest breakthrough product: ColorStay Liquid Lip. The campaign will be both print and screen adds starting in August. The commercials will feature one of Shania's biggest recent hits "Man! I Feel Like a Woman".
Shania's June 17th concert at the Gund Arena in Cleveland reportedly brought in $695,978! That brings that concert into the Top 10 grossing concert dates.
Shania had the third top-grossing touring acts of the first half of 1999. In first was The Rolling Stones grossing 87.4 million dollars at 44 shows, 2nd is George Strait's multi-artist stadium tour grossed almost 32.5 million
dollars, with only 17 shows, and again Shania grabs 3rd 27 million dollars in 46 shows.
Okay so her tour's over, hopefully you got to see it, and now Shania gets her well deserved break for a little while. So you ask, now what? Well Shania will be working on a christmas album to be out for December of this year, and her 4th album she's gonna try to get out by about summer of 2000. Another tour may start in the summer of 2001. As for rumours, Shania has been talking with movie excecutives about starring in a movie with none other than harrison Ford. The rumour states she's interested, but with the 2 albums coming up, music is still her #1 priority.
Vote for your favourite Shania video in CMT Labor Day Top 100 Requests. This is for the U.S. CMT, but everyone can vote online. Fill out some minor geographical info, type Shania Twain in the performer box and it will give you a list of her videos to choose from, pick your favourite and hit vote. Easy to do, but hard to pick the favourite Shania video : )
The Huge Timmins concert Shania gave on Canada day went great, except for the rain. The rain didnt dampen the spirits of 20,000 in attendance though, the concert went well. Check out the Timmins Daily Press section on Shania to read a whole bunch of concert articles.
The "Party In The Park" concert Shania will be participating in on July 4th in London will be aired on September 25 At 8 PM ET/PT. The concert extravaganza includes such artists along with Shania as Ricky Martin, Geri Halliwell and Boyzone. It will be captured by director Hamish Hamilton's 17-cameras, and will be distributed by Showtime Event Television (SET) Pay Per View. No word on which PPV systems will get it yet, but SET is huge and distributes such things as Tyson vs Hollyfeild I & II.
Shania's concert video "Shania Twain Live" has officially gone gold as of 5/11/99 (RIAA certification). That means it has already sold 500,000 copies! As I reported earlier it was #3 in top video sales according to Billboard.
"Man! I Feel Like A Woman" was one of the songs played during the Detroit/Windsor Hudson's Fireworks spectacular on wednesday. Known as the biggest fireworks show in North America and one of the best in the world, its great to hear Shania included. Yet again more mainstream for Shania.
According to the July 3rd Billboard magazine, Shania's "Shania Live" is the third highest selling video out last week, behind only the 2 boy-bands; Backstreet Boys #1, and 'N Sync #2.
"Come On Over", Shania's next single may be yet another in-concert video just like "Honey I'm Home". Scenes for the video were shot at her Portland Concert just recently.
Reba McEntire has already been heard defending Shania in some interviews, and she's done it again. In a recent interview she comments on Shania's image, music, and personality. Its a good read, so check out the article here.
FHM {tame European mens magazine} has once again come out with their "100 Sexiest Women of 1999", ranking Shania at #50, which is low, but consider that they include MANY European ladies you probably never heard of {if you live in North America that is}.
One of Shania's bandmembers, Brent Barcus {guitarist}, has teamed up with his wife Miley and made theire own CD. They are selling it on their own website: www.mileyandbb.com, so check it out. We already know how talented Shania's band is.
Wow, yet another concert in Detoit for me, and I was yet again amazed at what an amazing performer Shania is. This woman is incredible, and even though this last leg of the tour's shows might be slightly shorter {Detroit concert was 1:45 of Shania, as compared to just over 2 hours} than the first leg, its possibly more energetic. The "T-shaped Stage" add-on is a great idea, it helps get her closer to the fans. Thanx Shania for another awesome show! I can't believe I walked in on the sound check, oops : ) Check out my Review!
Ok, since I've gotten a bunch of email questions about it, I'll post what I know. Apparently I believe the Toronto Sun first ran a story that said Playboy offered Shania Twain $1 million to pose nude for the magazine. The article also says that she thought about it but feared it would alientate her country fans. Shania hasnt gotten back to them with a decision. Wheather any of this is actually true, who knows. The only way to really know is to ask Shania, or see if she ever appears on the cover.
In the June issue of Glamour, they reveal that Shania is planning on a christmas album this year! This is her first christmas album, but she did appear with Vanessa Williams on her christmas special a few years back. It was a great special, and I cant wait to hear more Shania chrstmas songs.
Shania recieved her 2 Diamond awards at the ACMA's recently. Later backstage Shania thanked her american fans, as the Diamond awards is based on U.S. sales. Shania also presented an awards with Tim McGraw to the Dixie Chicks. Check out the 20 vidcaps from the ceremony.
Shania's tour has a new addition. Fellow Mercury Nashville artist Shane Minor has joined her for the last leg of her tour. Shane will join Shania starting May 14th in Kansas, and is scheduled to appear in many of the remaining shows. *Side Note*- I find it very difficult to type the name "Shane", as any time I type the letters: "SHAN", they are follwed by an "IA". I have caught and corrected myself many times, but if I do miss one, you know why : )
The June issue of Glamour magazine which features Shania on the cover is now available. For the cover, Shania is wearing a plain white cotton tank-top and black strecth-silk beaded pants from Dolce & Gabbana. The four hour photo shoot went smoothly, and the people involved said Shania was friendly and down to earth. To see the cover pic, click
Shania was named Songwriter/Artist Of The Year by the Nashville Songwriters Association
at the 32nd Annual Songwriter Achievement Awards in Nashville, Shania is the first woman to be given the award.
Shania was #34 in Maxim magazines top 50 sexiest women of 99. Its just a small pic and a paragraph restating that she doesnt let her sex appeal bother her, but she's not gonna hide from it.
Just a little interesting note here, and a good enough excuse to put it on my page. Shania's "You're Still The One" was included in the celebration of Hockey Legend Wayne Gretzkey's last game today on April 18th. It was played over the arena's speaker system after the video presentation they did after the game. Basically he skated around waving to the fans while the song was played, but it was neat to hear Shania during it all. The song was part of a list of songs with some meaning for the occasion, including Frank Siantra's "Last Dance", Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You", and many more.
Shania's "You've Got A Way" will be featured in the upcoming film "Notting Hill" starring: Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. The only unfortunate thing is that the film will open at a similar date to the new Star Wars movie :The Phantom Menace which is expected to make some major cash in theatres. Actually, when everyone goes to see Star Wars and finds it is sold out, they will need a backup movie : )
MTV has started playing Shania's "That Don't Impress Me Much" video, the normal version. Many mainstream radio stations are playing shania's dance/pop version of the song, but MTV is playing the normal CMT version. MTV is labelling it as one of their "spanking new videos". Regardless, its great exposure for Shania..
Shania is a proven ratings giant. Her last 2 TV Events both drew huge audiences. "Shania Twains Winter Break" got a 10.1 rating in the us, meaning about 9,700,000+ viewers watched it in the US alone. CMT Canada's "Shania Sunday" on March 14th got an enormous 2.34 million viewers, which works out to almost 1 in 13 Canadians watching it!
I just picked up my tickets for Shania's March 22nd concert in Detroit. I was 10th in line {random draw} and only got upper bowl seats {fairly far back, directly facing stage}. The first person in line here in Windsor got 7th row, the next person got lower bowl! I havn't heard officialy yet, but she must've sold out, and probably quicker than the 22 minutes she sold out in Detroit last time. Only thing I wanna know is who do you have to know to get good seats : )
Shania's newest video "Man, I Fell Like A Woman" is now getting regular rotation. Shania wears the same outfit as she did during her Grammy performance {thats the reason she wore that at the Grammy's} during the video... eventually, after she gets rid of the overcoat and white "men's shirt". Obviously the outfits in the video are a play off the lyrics in the song. The video itself is a play off of Robert Palmers' 80's video: "Addicted To Love", with Shania singing in front of male models pretending to play their guitars. Good video. Of course Vidcaps and an mpg will be up soon.
I have just put up a big mpg of Shania's performance at the Grammy's in the media page. Alot of people requested this video so the server might be a little slow because of everyone trying to get it at once. It is a nice long 1:11 clip and weighs in at 8.5mb. Expect about an hour download, so go play solitaire or watch TV {Shania prefferably} while you wait : ).
Shania looked fabulous in her Marc Bouwer gown, but what she wore during the performance was the shocker. For one of the very first times, Shania actually showed her legs, which she admits she doesnt like doing because she "hates them". Well she held true to the lyrics of "Man, I Fell Like A Woman" and wore a miniskirt! It was an amazingly different look for Shania. Shania though did look nervous for the first part of the song in which it looks like she was shaking, though it couldve been that she was very cold in that outfit.
In an interview on E!'s pre-Grammy show, they said Shania has already won 2 Grammy's. They didnt specify which though. Shania looked stunning in her new Marc Bouwer gown, and when asking the next star in line {Star Wars producer Geogre Lucas} how the back of her dress look, he carefully said "very good". The host was kinda dumb and left her hanging as he continued to talk to Lucas, no goodbye at all.
"Wheel Of Fortune" recently had a puzzle that ended up being: "Singer-Songwriter-Shania Twain". You know you're mainstream and have made it when "Wheel Of Fortune" has puzzles about you : ) The show was aired on Feb 15th from Hawaii.
Shania is Cosmopolitans' Fun, Fearless Female of the Year as announced in their upcoming February issue. Shania is on the cover looking elegant in a pink gown. The issue includes a 3 page section on Shania. It will be on newstands on Tuesday January 19th. Check out the cover, click image to enlarge.
When this leg of Shania's tour ends {Jan 2nd} it will have grossed $35 million. That gives Shania Twain the top grossing female tour this year! Janet Jackson is in 2nd with $32 million.
A video for the song "Come On Over" was aired at the end of Halftime on Monday Nights NFL game. I only saw the last few seconds of it but it was said to be done with the Tampa Bay team and Cheerleaders. Possibly footage from a concert in the area?? I am looking into this.
Roling Stone currently has their Shania interview online. There is a little more online than in the magazine interview though, about her juggling talent, and other interesting stuff. Also, in their Shania section, there are 5 other pics in the photo gallery from the same photo shoot that the cover pic was taken from.
Shania is on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine now, available untill late August, and the August 25th issue of Country Weekly. Click on the covers for a larger scan.
Yes those are the shoes Shania wears in concert. Elle magazine for sure has the add, US magazine only had rapper Lil Kim's Candies add. Those are the only 2 magazines I checked. Elle has all 4 adds near the front of the mag. I have put up a scan HERE, warning its quality makes it huge, a 270k file. Hehe, watch how quickly this gets taken from my page by all the generic gallery pages, just like my vid captures.
Associated Press reports that Shania's 3000-acre home in the Adirondack Mountains is now for sale for a reported $9 million. The local communities say they will miss Shania, she was nice and was generous to the community, reportedly donating money for the Fire Departments truck, help with last winters Ice Storm, and a new sound system for the local school district.
