Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008
Riverside Minor Baseball held their Day of Champions on Saturday where Rookie Ball, Mosquito, Pee Wee and Bantam teams competed to crown champions in each division. The Blue Jays were champs in 3 of the 4 divisions.
Rookie Ball - Blue Jays 17 Red Sox 8
The D&R Vacuum Blue Jays scored 7 runs in the first inning and never looked back. It was too much for the Reaume Sports Red Sox to over come as they fell behind 13-1 before getting the offense going. Aiden Bass, Dakotah Harness and Alec Gay led the Blue Jay offence with 4 hits and 4 runs each. Carter Comeau had 3 hits and 3 runs and Jamie Land, Jack Jacob and Mancerolle also had 3 hits as the Blue Jays totaled 31 hits. For the Red Sox, Jack White and Nathan Byerly had 3 hits each and Jacob Prsa, Adam Stupnyckyj and Jack Chauvin had a pair of hits.
Mosquito - Blue Jays 10 Rockies 5
Like the Rookie Ball game, the Domino's Pizza Blue Jays put up a big number in the 1st inning and held on. A bases load double by Riley Sevo capped a 6 run 1st inning and the WFCU Rockies could never catch up. R.J. Lamoureux led the offence with 3 hits and 2 RBI, while lead off hitter Justin Fischer, had 2 hits and scored 3 times. For the Rockies, Ryan Parent had 2 hits, scoring 3 rimes and Jason Riberdy had a 2 RBI double. Jacob Lilly, Damon Longmuir and Sevo combined to limit the Rockies to 6 hits while striking out 13.
Pee Wee - Tigers 23 Rockies 4
Tigers scored crooked numbers every inning as they routed the Rockies in the only game not involving a Blue Jay team. Ryan Ulicny and Tyler Dugal led the offence with 3 hits each and 3 runs, while Spencer Comeau, Brandon Menard and Cameron Briese had a pair of hits each. Bobbie Shanklin, Ulickny and Comeau combined to allow the Rockies only 4 hits while striking out 12.
Bantam - Blue Jays 11 Yankees 10
The best game of the day, it was close all the way. The Knights of Columbus 4924 Yankees led 5-3 after 3 innings, fell behind 11-6, then staged a late rally that fell short. James McQuaid led the Blue Jays with 2 doubles, 3 RBI and scored 3 times. Luigi Iati also had 2 hits and scored 3, while Samantha Cellotto had a double and 2 RBI. For the Yankees, Denny Broeckel had 2 hits and 2 RBI, while Corey Jarrold scored 3 times and Noah Markham had a double and 2 RBI. Patrick Fay, Iati and McQuaid combined to strike out 9 for the Blue Jays, while Brandon Brown and Broeckel for the Yankees limited the Jays to 7 hits while striking out 13.
All the divisions (including T-Ball and Instructional Rookie Ball) completed their season with a Wrap Up party, receiving awards, snacks and congratulations on a well run season. Thanks to the coaches who make this all possible.
SEE YOU NEXT SEASON!
