John Drew: Comes
from a musical family . In fact, all his immediate family members
are still actively performing. His love for Jazz began early in life,
falling asleep to the smooth tones of Jimmy Smith, or the power of
Buddy Rich's Big Band emanating from his parent stereo down the hall.
Growing up across from Detroit, Michigan (Motown) instilled the funk
grooves present in his music then, as well as today. From soul to
rock and roll, John played it all in doing so became a sought after
studio musician due to his versatility.
His passion for writing started at the age of thirteen
and still burns today. John's career as a sideman to other Canadian
acts ended in 1988 with the formation of the "J.D. Project".
This group was formed to bring together the best like-minded
musicians to play original Jazz compositions.
The fabric of John's writing contains elements of all
his life and musical experiences and is supported by the inspired
musicianship of the "Project".
In recent years J.D. has worked with many great
musicians such as Misty Love (Kid Rock, Funk Brothers), Dalbert
Nelson (Funk Brothers), Rick Emmett, Alan Caron, Dave Young (Oscar
Peterson) and many more! |
