LSC News Update (August 2008:
Dear Parents & Skaters,
It’s that time of year again, the start of another skating season!! We hope you have all enjoyed your summer vacations and are looking forward to another great skating year. The Leamington Skating Club will be running a 24 week program for our fall/winter season. We offer a wide range of skating sessions including: PRECANSKATE SESSION for beginner skaters aged 3-5 years, CANSKATE SESSION for “learn to skate”, as well as a TEEN SKATE SESSION for those older kids who want to learn to skate. We also have PREJUNIOR, JUNIOR, INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR sessions for our more experienced skaters. Due to the success of last year, we will once again be offering our LSC FUTURE HOCKEY STARS CanPowerSkate sessions for beginner to advanced hockey players, as well as our GROUP ARTISTIC/DANCE/SKILLS session. Aside from the great existing programs above, we are very excited about a new program we are implementing this season. Its our new LEARN-TO-SYNCHRO Synchronized Skating Session. Whether you are experienced at Synchronized Skating, or simply want to learn what its all about, this 30minute program is for you.
Skating will start on Saturday September 6,2008. Each session will run for 24 weeks (except Sunday group session and CanPowerskate) with a few cancellation dates in between for hockey tournaments, holidays, skating competitions etc. You will be given a list of cancellation dates at registration. I have included some information below on the programs we are offering for this season as well as some other updates. If you are confused as to which session to register your child(s) for, we will be there to help and our professional coaching staff will also be in attendance at registration to answer any questions you may have.
We have some new and some returning members on our board of directors and are very excited to have all of our coaches returning for the winter season. We have several fundraising events planned including our Baked Goods Fundraiser, Pizza Hut Nights, Dances at the Sherk Complex, as well as Boston Pizza fundraising. We are still running Bingo’s at Classic Bingo in Tecumseh, which are still our biggest fundraiser. We are working on some new fundraising ideas and as always we welcome your suggestions. If you can help with any of the fundraising above, please let us know.
The “SunParlour Regional Skater’s Bursary” and the “Western Ontario Section Bursary” are both available this year for skaters experiencing financial difficulties. If you would like more information on either of these bursaries, please contact the club office or any of our board members. All applications are kept private and confidential at all times. National Child Benefit Supplement is also available however you will need to apply prior to registration. Please contact Maureen Symes at the Sherk Complex for more information at 519-322-2337. This program offers a great deal of assistance for families in need who would like their children to participate in a fun active sport. Please note however that NCBS can apply only to one skating session per child.
We are very excited about the upcoming season and although this is a busy time of year for all of us, we welcome your input and your ideas. If you have any concerns, comments or suggestions please drop them into our suggestion box, which is located in the skating office. Please also feel free to drop in and speak to any of us in person. Our skating club room is a good place to find us and we want all of our parents and skaters to feel welcome. If you have any questions, please contact the club office at 519-325-0606 and leave us a message and someone will get back to you. Please remember to visit our WEBSITE, at www.mnsi.net/~lsc where you can download your registration form and bring it with you to registration. Our email address is lsc@mnsi.net.
As your president, I have had a lot of great experiences over the past year and I am looking forward to another very successful year. I welcome your opinions and/or suggestions throughout the year and have included my email address below. I am proud to say we have a very hard-working team of board members as well as an awesome group of dedicated professional coaches. It will be an honour to work with all of them again this season!!
Regards,
Leamington Skating Club President
