Exercise Found More Beneficial Than Diet to Lower Heart Disease Risk

Sudden Death, and Other Top Heart Disease Symptoms to Avoid

Walking Not Enough to Prevent Heart Attacks

While government recommendations say that 30 minutes of moderate daily activity, such as brisk walking, will ward of heart disease, a study found that only vigorous exercise lowers the risk of early death from heart disease.

Increasing Protein Can Improve Heart Failure

Damage from congestive heart failure may be compensated for by increasing levels of a protein that helps to regulate levels of nitric oxide in the blood, according to a study on mice.

Men With Early Onset Heart Disease May be Genetically Predisposed to Stress

The most significant inherited risk factor in people who develop heart disease early on in life may be stress, according to a study, and it appears that stress has a greater impact on men than women.

Vitamin D Treats Congestive Heart Failure

A lack of vitamin D may contribute to congestive heart failure, as researchers found that patients with chronic heart failure have lower levels of the vitamin in the blood.

Tea Health Benefits heartatttacks

Drinking tea may not only reduce your risk of developing heart disease, but it may also improve your chances of surviving longer after a heart attack. A new study shows heart attack victims who drank the most tea were the least likely to die in the years immediately following a heart attack.

Fish Oil Reduces Heart Disease The Evidence Increases

Previous studies have suggested a link between Eskimos’ high intake of omega-3 fats and their reduced risk of heart disease. Since then, several other studies have strengthened the association between the intake of omega-3 fats and the reduced risk of heart disease.

Testosterone May Prevent Chest Pain

A daily testosterone boost may reduce heart disease-related chest pain in men with relatively low levels of the male hormone, researchers report.

Congestive Heart Failure

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is the end product of any of a number of cardiovascular diseases that can degrade the heart’s ability to pump blood efficiently. Much has been written on diagnosing congestive heart failure but rather less is known about treating it. This is because broken hearts are tough to fix. A diagnosis of CHF means that it is too late for nutritional prevention. The horse is long gone by the time most people decide to shut the stable door. But nutritional intervention can still greatly help a damaged heart.

Testosterone Is Your Hearts Best Friend

20% Of Heart Attacks Go Undetected -- How Can You Check Your Risk

Although most heart attacks involve chest pain or discomfort, some occur without these symptoms. In addition, milder chest discomfort and other heart attack symptoms such as dizziness or shortness of breath may not readily signal a heart attack to the patient, or even the doctor.

Low-Fat Diets Will Increase, Not Decrease, Triglycerides Some Vegetable Alternatives

Cutting Calories May Keep Heart Young

Cutting calories may do more than help people shed excess weight, research suggests. According to a new report, a low-calorie diet may also slow age-related changes in the heart's genes that can lead to chronic disease.

Dietary Fats and the Cause of Heart Disease

Traditional medicine insists that the intake of saturated fat is the main environmental factor for coronary heart disease. However, when scientists attempted to decrease the consumption of saturated fat and replaced it, in part, with unsaturated omega-6 fats, there has been no decrease in heart disease.
It is only when omega-3 fatty acids:
Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), or
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
were added to the diet that sudden cardiac death and nonfatal heart attacks were significantly lowered.

DrDavidWilliams.com Recommendations for Heart Health

Conventional treatments for maintaining a healthy heart can be risky and expensive. Natural ways to prevent the need for such treatments in the first place exist. Here are my recommendations for the foods, essential nutrients and general exercise guidelines that support overall cardiovascular health

artery

A group of Italian researchers found that the more vitamin E women consumed in their diets, the less likely they were to have the beginning traces of thickening in the neck's carotid arteries, a marker of artery disease throughout the body.

arterydamage

Both vitamins C and E, taken alone, may prevent a type of oxidative damage tied to cardiovascular disease.

CO Q10 Prevents and Restores Heart Functions

Coenzyme Q10 has become one of the better-researched and substantiated "vitamin" supplements. Hundreds of studies document the multiple life-extension benefits of this versatile nutrient, not only as a powerful antioxidant, but also in augmenting the action of other antioxidants such as and in preventing such diseases as heart disease, neurological decline with age, and even periodontal disease.

omega-3

Eating fatty acids found in fish oils may help reduce the risk of a heart attack by keeping arteries flexible, Australian researchers report.

Fish Oil Reduces Risk of Irregular Heartbeat

Previous studies have suggested that fish oil supplements may reduce the risk of an additional heart attack or stroke in patients who have recently experienced a heart attack. Now new study findings reveal that the supplement also reduces the risk of sudden death.

Vitamin D Deceases Heart Disease Death Risk

Women who take vitamin D supplements lower their risk of death from heart disease by one-third.

Vitamin D May Reduce Heart Disease Risk by 1-3

Women over age 65 who took vitamin D had nearly one-third less risk of dying from heart disease as women who did not take the supplements, according to research presented today at the American Heart Association's Asia Pacific Scientific Forum

Dietary Options for Heart and Artery Renewal

Foods Which Remove Arterial Residues of Fat and Cholesterol

Vegan Diet May Reduce Chances Of Heart Disease

Avoiding all animal-based food including dairy products and eggs -- known as a vegan diet - may reduce blood levels of an amino acid linked with heart disease, according to a report.

Aspirin May Do More Harm Than Good For Heart In Some Cases

Aspirin, the supposedly benign wonder drug taken by many men who fear heart attacks, may actually harm some of those most at risk, researchers warn

Heart Disease and Vitamin E

New York Newsday carried a report that vitamin E had decreased the risk of heart disease between one-third and one-half. The studies reported were conducted at the Harvard School of Public Health. In one study, Dr. M. Stampfer found that during an eight year follow-up, women who had taken at least 100 iu of vitamin E daily for two years had a 46 percent lower risk of having a heart attack. This was based on a population study involving 87,245 women. The second study, on men, by Dr. E. Rimm, based upon 51,529 subjects, showed a 37 percent lower risk. They found that there was not enough vitamin E in food; Dr. Stampfer was so convinced by the data he is taking the vitamin himself.

HOMOCYSTEINE

Cardiovascular disease causes 44% of all deaths in the United States. Alzheimer's dementia affects 4 million Americans now, and is expected to increase sharply as the population ages. Both cardiovascular and Alzheimer's disease have now been linked to the accumulation of a toxic amino acid called homocysteine. Vitamin supplement users have assumed they are being protected against homocysteine overload, but this article will expose that fallacy and recommend a scientific course of action to follow.

7 for the Heart

If you have been told you have coronary heart disease, you need to understand seven things about this problem

You and Your Heart

Total health depends on the delivery of clean, oxygenated blood to the cells. Many factors can interfere with the oxygenation of blood. They include airborne toxins and pollutants, as well as poisons generated from within the body itself in the intestinal tract. Specific nutrients, especially those with antioxidant properties, can help the body remove these toxins.

Heart Arrhythmia

From time to time I have told my students that, in all honesty, I am not particularly interested in nutrition as a subject. What I am interested in is people getting well, and nutrition is merely the best available means to that end.

The Linus Pauling Cure for Heart Disease

The link between vitamin C and the leading cause of death; occlusive cardiovascular disease (CVD), AKA heart disease, was first made by a Canadian more than fifty years ago in 1952.
