selecting jewelry

Body jewelry for a new piercing is made from a solid length of hypoallergenic metal or acrylic, ending in a bead or threaded ball. All surfaces must be perfectly smooth for safety. EXTREMUS® carries only the highest quality surgical stainless steel (316L implant grade), 14K yellow gold, niobium, and titanium jewelry from manufacturers whose jewelry we wear in our own body piercings.

Surgical stainless steel jewelry (316L) rarely causes allergic reactions. It is strong, relatively inexpensive, and gives the handsome appearance of silver. It's available with stainless steel or gemstone beads. Niobium and titanium are other hypoallergenic metals; the few people who react to implant steel can almost always wear these metals. Both metals come in a variety of colors with steel or gemstone beads.

Yellow gold (14K or better) is a more expensive option. Yellow is preferred to white gold, due to its lower percentage of base (allergy causing) metals. Colored gold (pink, etc.) is unsuitable for body piercings due to the high level of toxic metals.

We will not install any jewelry made of sterling silver, less than 14K gold, or which we cannot verify meets our minimum quality standards. We cannot guarantee the quality or durability of client-provided jewelry.
