A History of Strength
Kick-Off of BookFest Focuses on Stories of Remarkable Strength
Be part of an exciting literary event: with Michael Duben as moderator, a quartet of remarkable artists will open the 6th Annual BookFestWindsor at the Art Gallery of Windsor. These artists—Gil Adamson, Clark Blaise, Afua Cooper, and Leslie McCurdy—are all remarkable in their own right, but together their force is truly powerful. Their subject matter—across fiction and non-fiction, print and performance—is the stuff of life and death, of story and history, of surprise and reversal, of violence and love.
Adamson and Blaise, setting the pace, will show how best to wring out a tale, to hone a story, to rivet an audience. The duo of Cooper and McCurdy promise an extra-special experience: each will tell of her exploration of the same dramatic historical character—Marie-Joseph Angelique, a black slave executed in Montreal in 1734—one in book form, one through dramatic monologue. Cooper will discuss The Hanging of Angelique, and then McCurdy will wrap the session up with a presentation of her acclaimed dramatic monologue, in Angelique’s voice.
