| What
is the Risk? |
|
| When
a needle punctures a person infected
with HIV, it becomes contaminated and
ready to infect the next person who uses
it. It is not the needle itself, nor the
drug inside the syringe which causes HIV
transmission--it is the blood in the
needle which transmits infection. It
doesn't matter if it is street drugs,
vitamin B, steroids, tattoo or piercing
needles or anything else, sharing any
needles can cause infection. Needles,
crack pipes, spoons, and vials must
never be shared. |
