The AIDS Committee of
Windsor (ACW) is a non-profit registered charity
mandated to provide education and support services with
regard to HIV/AIDS for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and
Lambton counties. The ACW was established in 1985
by community volunteers, including those from the
University of Windsor and the Windsor-Essex County
Health Unit who were concerned about the lack of
response to the new disease that seemed to be attacking
the gay community.
The ACW offers direct
services to over 400 clients, and community education
programs to more than 6,000 youth and adults annually.
The ACW has grown and
expanded its services and educational opportunities, and
is able to offer these services to the entire
community. Supported by a dedicated staff of 19
and 150 volunteers, the organization reaches high-risk
populations and the general public of Windsor-Essex, and
Chatham-Kent counties (with funds raised in those
communities). Board members and staff are known
nation-wide for their professionalism and expertise, and
have presented programs of the ACW at local, provincial,
national and international conferences.
