Report of Parish of the
Transfiguration Consultation
Feb. 4, 2006
When participants of the Parish of the Transfiguration consultation arrived, they were greeted with a chart that stated:
Do You Have an Issue? If you have a topic
that you feel needs to be discussed by the Parish… today is the day to
voice your opinion! Take a file card.
Put your thoughts into print – without your name. I need these
cards in my basket by noon. These will be discussed (as time permits) today
and then at future Parish Council meetings.
After a service of Holy Communion , lunch, and the discussion with our guest speaker, the following issues were discussed for a one hour time frame:
We agreed to use four norms while conducting the consultation. These norms were: attentive listening, mutual respect, right to pass / participate, and appreciation.
We also agreed to use a consensus definition – we have
arrived at consensus when all points of view have been heard and the will of
the group is evident – even to those who most oppose it.
With the norms in place and the consensus definition discussed, we conducted think / pair / share activities and then came to a consensus with our group concerning what we felt was the most important point we needed to post for all present to discuss.
The results of those discussions is charted below.
