Our Rectors

former and present clergy of the parish and chapels

I hesitated to put up this page. There are parish rectors and chapel rectors and associates and in-charges and they come and go (none stay so long as Mr Gunne, in the parish 1845-1872, pictured above and buried now in St Matthew’s cemetery – lo, I am with you always). Somebody will be missed – but not on purpose. So I’ll leave it to you – I shall find whom I can and ask you surfers to send whom you can and we’ll see how the page shapes up.

So far we have thirteen. In the words of Dr. Gary Badcock, theologian and professor at Huron College, that’s a “schism of priests.” A wag of my acquaintance outside the parish suggests it takes only one for this… A priest who wishes to be anonymous suggests a “circumstance of clergy” (to go with the “pomp”) and a professor asks whether there might be a “surplice of priests” (only, one supposes, when there are too many). She also, as a member of the United Church of Canada, suggests a “waffle of United Church ministers.” This is getting to be fun!
