Did you know?

(in the Parish of the Transfiguration)

How does “Did you know?” work? It’s like this. You write in with something you know about a parish location or person that you think others might not know. We are six chapels and it takes some time to get to know one another. This is a way to facilitate the process and it should be fun. We can thank Shirley Sewell for the idea. The webmaster will not entertain anything like “Did you know so-and-so is a dirty rotten skunk?” of course. But we’re a loving parish and would not consider that anyway.

Let’s begin

Did you know – our very own Christ Church, Dresden, has strong connections to Josiah Henson’s ministry and is being looked at very closely by historians just now? That an American author is in the process of writing a book about the Reverend Thomas Hughes, the founding rector of the church?

ś

Did you know – the number one country of origin of the people of Chatham-Kent is Holland? Of the people of Lambton is the UK?

ś

Did you know – one of our former rectors and one of our young parishioners chatted with John Cleese (but at different times)? Both found him delightful.

ś

Did you know – one of our wardens is a nurse practitioner?

ś

Did you know – one of our parishioners speaks five languages? (!)

ś

Did you know – a graduate of the St Matthew’s Sunday School is a wrestler whose organization will soon produce an action figure of him? An action figure!

ś

Did you know – one of our parishioners once umpired Fergie Jenkins’ throws?

Did you know – that in SW Ontario (Windsor to Woodstock to Wingham) and possibly further, there is only one parish or faith community or cluster of churches that has more than four churches in it? That one is the Parish of the Transfiguration. That you have chosen to be, and maintain, this diverse collection and geographically-spread group of churches like this is a testament to your faith and sense of community.

Did you know – you can write to adenkers @mnsi.net (close the space between the s and the @ when you do) and add your own “Did you know?” to this page?
