Motto: Holding forth the Word of Life.
The Leamington Mennonite Brethern Church (LMBC) was established in 1932 following the establishment of the Mennonite Brethern Conference of Ontario. A group of about 16 people who had been worshipping together with the United Mennonite Church pioneered the new church.
The first church building on Elliot Street was dedicated on Christmas Eve, 1939 with Isaac Tiessen elected as the first leader. He served until 1947 and continued to assist until 1958. The present church building is located on Highway 3, just east of Leamington. An education wing and gymnasium were added to the building in 1980, and in 1997 with the membership close to 200, another major addition was completed. Today there are services in both English and Laotian.
Many members have been actively involved in mission work both abroad and at home. Some members of the group led a Sunday School in Windsor for some years, actively participated in worship services in seniors’ homes, worked with children’s clubs, and sponsored Laotian refugees. There is also ongoing support for the Et Cetera shop and other MCC projects.
